Our consumables team designs cartridges, single-use components, and disposables for diagnostics, cell therapy, and sample-prep workflows. We design for function and for manufacturability at scale, working alongside fluidics, optics, and DFM partners so the same cartridge that performs at the bench performs at million-unit production.

Our Approach

Consumables are the unsung product of life-sciences instruments. They ship in the millions, get tossed in seconds, and have to perform identically every time. We design cartridges, single-use components, and disposables for function, manufacturability, and cost, in tight collaboration with fluidics, optics, and motion teams who depend on them.

A consumable design decision is a design decision twice: once at engineering, once at COGS. Adding a feature that costs ten cents at the prototype shows up forever in the unit economics of the product. We make those tradeoffs visible while they’re still cheap to change.

Most consultancies design either the instrument or the consumable. We design both, in the same room, with the same DFM partners on the same call. That’s how you get a cartridge that actually behaves the way the instrument was designed around it, at instrument-development scale and at million-unit manufacturing scale. Design for COGS gets the same attention as design for function.
